Winona Ryder Professionally Winona Ryder, was born in Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her after her hometown. The father of her Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's father comes from an ethnically Jewish family Ryder thinks she's Jewish. Ryder has two half-siblings younger than her, Jubal and Sunyata. The time Ryder was seven, her family relocated into Mendocino County California. There they didn't have electricity. Ryder was an avid reader who spent all of her time studying books since she didn't have a TV. Ryder started to take acting classes at the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 in the year she turned 13 years old. After she reached the age of 15 Ryder had a chance to play in Lucas which was her debut major film. Ryder was bullied at high school. Her performing career, she thought that it would aid her. However, it didn't come to pass. She continued to pursue her dreams. Her big break occurred in the year 1988, when Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued to play successful roles in numerous films. In 1993 Ryder was twice nominated to win Academy Awards. One of the nominations was for her part as a character in The Age of Innocence.
